Helicopter Landing on Iced Waters
Navalprogetti was contracted by Agip KCO to investigate the limit conditions during the helicopter landing phase, relative to ice thickness and ice flexural strength.A Finite ElementsModelling and analysis to verify the ice thickness suitability to resist a helicopter landing load in different loading conditions were performed.
The helicopter that was chosen for the analysis was the AS 365 N3. The maximum take off weight of the helicopter is 4300kg, as for technical specification.
The global ice loading simulation has been performed using explicit methods. The helicopter landing speed has been taken of about 1.22 m/s and near zero speed. The last case has been taken to better simulate the soft landing condition. The impact on the ice was performed for different ice thicknesses.
